{"id":338,"date":"2003-05-06T18:32:18","date_gmt":"2003-05-06T16:32:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.multiplicity.dk\/?p=338"},"modified":"2003-05-06T18:32:18","modified_gmt":"2003-05-06T16:32:18","slug":"conference-open-access","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/krag.be\/index.php\/2003\/05\/06\/conference-open-access\/","title":{"rendered":"Conference: Open Access"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"First Mile Workshop\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wideopenaccess.net\/\">First Mile Workshop<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Swedish International Cooperation Agency and the UN ICT Task Force as having an International Workshop on Open Access issues in Kista, Stockholm on June 5th &#8211; 6th 2003.<\/p>\n<p>It looks interesting enough, and there is a nice place to register on the website, but apparently that registers you for web access only, and here, 1 month before the conference there is NO information on how to actually attend the conference, and whether there is a price or not.<\/p>\n<p>Oh well. we&#8217;ll see!<\/p>\n<p><bq>The purpose is to identify successful solutions and standards for access networks providing open universal access (First Mile), as well as sustainable business models for operation and maintenance of such networks which could be disseminated as best practices.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop will present and discuss successful examples of communication applications in developing countries and rural areas with an emphasis on schools and small businesses and their role as primary adopters in communities.
