My wonderful parents gave me a wonderful present this christmas. I got a Hush Technologies mini-itx PC.

It’s a beautiful VIA mini-itx PC, made to fit into my Stereo stack. I’ve long been wanting an upgrade to my current surround system, including the capability to record tv-programs to harddisk, as well as play mp3’s on my stereo system. The VIA EPIA processor and the mini-itx Hush PC offers a fanless 1GHz PC in a beautiful box, perfect for the goal I have with this (or so I hope). I’m expecting to take delivery of the box in the next few days, and will start my quest to find the right linux-distro, get all the drivers working, choose a TV-tuner card, and generally get it up and running.

I am pretty sure I will be running the impressive mythTV package on it, which offers a seriously cool interface for watching DVD’s, playing MP3’s, and recording tv-shows all using a remote control.

My requirements are really simple, since I live in a one-bedroom apartment with my girlfriend, it has to be a practically noise-less solution, and the idea of having a 24/7 server in a closet and streaming the data is not realistic. We have no closet that isn’t full of stuff already, and the power-consumption of a modern PC is prohibitive.
